Review

This novel gives you a lot within the pages. You get in the minds of multiple characters as it is a multi-POV type of novel. This can get a little convoluted, but I think the author does a good job of transitioning for the most part.

Quick moving with a lot going on throughout. It takes a little more effort on the readers part to keep up, but I don’t think it was too much.

Dainy is easy to love as a character and you become torn like she is when choosing who to give her heart to.

Vivid Imagery and wonderful descriptions really help the reader feel like they are a part of the world.

This novel really culminates in the end. It gets better and better as the novel goes on.

Temptation Trials

Adult, Dystopian Romance & Post-Apocalyptic

Date Published: June 3, 2017

Will You Be Tempted? Will Love Save Your Soul?

     One nation under his reign.
Cardinal sins of man caused humanity to pay the price. Cali Nasser grew up in a world succeeding World War III. The aftermath forced the world dictatorship that she must now live in. A new Regime arose from the ashes. They demanded obedience and cooperation from every citizen, even in matters of the heart.
One domain … One accord … One nation. That is the moral code. In Cali’s eyes, it all revolves around a twisted plot for control.
It used to sicken Cali how people would allow the Regime to test their love through the Temptation Trials. That is, until she met Kincade. Cali’s entire point of view changes when she falls for him. She struggles with herself, debating if she should challenge the government’s law of arranged marriage.
Cali’s childhood friend, Stefani, always kept a positive perspective about their lives until she was threatened with the same dilemma, at odds over the man she loves.
Now Cali and Stefani face a desperate choice—submit to the Regime’s will, or fight for what they value most—love. Although lust, mistaken for love, could lead to damnation. Do they give up on love or sign up for the Temptation Trials, a reality TV show where every temptation is laid before them?
The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Can love save their souls?

Review

Temptation is correct. I think that was a great theme that shown through in everything aspect of this novel.

I enjoyed the fact that it had a Hunger Games feel to it with the reality tv show. It really plays on the fact that even we today get such a kick out of watching real people.

Love or Lust. How hard do you fight for what you believe? Is it worth the possible sacrifice?

The origins of Judeo-Christian religion and mythology come together in this mature science fiction page-turner.
To combat overpopulation on the planet Orion, the government releases a birth control virus to keep women from becoming pregnant. Only the brightest and most attractive of their species are allowed to mate. But the virus rages out of control, killing both mother and child. Attempts to develop a cure fail. They only have one option left: search other worlds for advanced societies that may be able to help.
The two most intelligent minds on Orion—and former best friends—Lucifer and Zues band together to search for a secret planet. When they finally arrive, they are greeted with unexplainable death and destruction. This planet is not the answer. Something doesn’t add up. They discover an extra unknown planet in the solar system.
The new planet is covered in lush land masses and bodies of water. Different species of hominids run—and mate—freely. Fire-breathing dragons guard the land. Lucifer is determined to figure out who or what created this planet. He thinks it just might be the key to saving Orion and the Orionites.

The ultimate collection of quickies. I love how diverse the offerings from Jaimie Engle were with this collection. I love the wit and humor and you really know you are going to get a great laugh from her writing by the blurb. The idea behind this is really witty and imaginative.
That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by Engle’s abbility to put together a wide variety of genre’s and be an authority on each of them. None of them felt like they were out of her scope. It gives a reader a great way to be a little bit “ADD” with what they read, which I am!

Surviving the Fatherland

Historical Fiction
Date Published: March 15, 2017
 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png
***An IWIC Hall of Fame Novel***
***Winner 2017 National Indie Excellence Award***
“This book needs to join the ranks of the classic survivor stories of WWII such as “Diary of Anne Frank” and “Man’s Search for Meaning”. It is truly that amazing!” InD’taleMagazine
“This family saga is wonderfully written and, aside from the emotional ramifications, very easy to read. I stayed up too late a couple of nights reading it…I highly recommend this book!” Long and Short Reviews
Spanning thirteen years from 1940 to 1953 and set against the epic panorama of WWII, author Annette Oppenlander’s SURVIVING THE FATHERLAND is a sweeping saga of family, love, and betrayal that illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the children’s war.
SURVIVING THE FATHERLAND tells the true and heart-wrenching stories of Lilly and Günter struggling with the terror-filled reality of life in the Third Reich, each embarking on their own dangerous path toward survival, freedom, and ultimately each other. Based on the author’s own family and anchored in historical facts, this story celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the strength of war children.
When her father goes off to war, seven-year-old Lilly is left with an unkind mother who favors her brother and chooses to ignore the lecherous pedophile next door. A few blocks away, twelve-year-old Günter also looses his father to the draft and quickly takes charge of supplementing his family’s ever-dwindling rations by any means necessary.
As the war escalates and bombs begin to rain, Lilly and Günter’s lives spiral out of control. Every day is a fight for survival. On a quest for firewood, Lilly encounters a dying soldier and steals her father’s last suit to help the man escape. Barely sixteen, Günter ignores his draft call and embarks as a fugitive on a harrowing 47-day ordeal–always just one step away from execution.
When at last the war ends, Günter grapples with his brother’s severe PTSD and the fact that none of his classmates survived. Welcoming denazification, Lilly takes a desperate step to rid herself once and for all of her disgusting neighbor’s grip. When Lilly and Günter meet in 1949, their love affair is like any other. Or so it seems. But old wounds and secrets have a way of rising to the surface once more.

Review

What a ride this series has been. I am sad to see it end. Kudos to Sofia Diana Gabel for managing to elevate the story, characters, and action from novel to novel. I felt like there was such a great progression with all of those aspects from one story to the next. It kept me as the reader invested and engaged the entire way through.

I loved this world, but I loved the characters even more. I am sad to leave them behind. Such a wonderfully crafted YA Sci-Fi series.

Review

Buckle up and get ready for even more from this novel. Christine Hart really takes multiple aspects to the next level in this installment. There was quite a bit more drama and emotion in my opinion with this one. The characters are faced with pretty tough decisions, Irina most of all. I’d say that the climax and suspense in this one was really well done. I was quite surprised and found myself shocked right along with the characters. There is something to be said about an author who can continue to pull those kind of reactions in their reader.

Located on BC’s beautiful West Coast, Christine writes speculative fiction for YA & NA readers.  She has an undergraduate degree in writing and literature, a corporate background in communications and design, and an Etsy alter-ego named Sleepless Storyteller. Christine shares her eclectic home and lifestyle with her metal working husband, dancing daughter and rocket enthusiast son.

About the Author

L. S. O’Dea grew up the youngest of seven in a family that uses teasing and tricks as an indication of love (or at least that’s what she tells herself).  Being five years younger than her closest sibling often made her the unwilling entertainment for her brothers and sisters.
Before she started kindergarten her brothers taught her how to spell her first and middle name—Linda Sue.  She was so proud she ran into the kitchen to tell her mother.  She stood tall and recited the letters of her name:  L-E-M-O-N   H-E-A-D.
Perhaps, she has her siblings to thank for the demons that whisper through her mind and help to create these dark and demented stories.
